ZC

ZC is a little different than the standard GCT Files you may be used to. These Gecko Codes are placed in with the save data file. There is a portion of the save data that is unused but the entire file gets loaded into RAM. This means by placing the codes in with the save data they will be loaded when the game is started. Because the save data is being edited for these codes a new Virtual Console Channel has been made for use with them so that it doesn't interfere with the standard Channel. Additionally changes have been made to the ROM as well such as shortened or removed cutscenes, use of unused spawn points, etc. You may notice that there is a Nintendo 64 version available for download. This is strictly just a patch to create the ROM which then can be used with an Emulator like Project64, or a Flashcart on the Nintendo 64. The custom Save Data and Gecko Codes are not for Nintendo 64 as they will only work on the Nintendo Wii.

Requirements:

  • Nintendo Wii Console
  • The Homebrew Channel
  • WAD Manager
  • Majora's Mask ROM/WAD (USA)
  • SD Card
ZC Version:
Console/Emulator:
Region:
Download

Installion Guide:

Download and extract the ZC Release. This contains the Save Data and ROM/WAD Patch for the version selected. You will need to patch the WAD. All patches are to be applied to the USA ROM/WAD. Even if you are patching for the Japanese version. Then install it on the Wii along with custom save data for it. Instuctions for doing so are provided below.

Patching the ROM/WAD:

If the checksum is valid then you can patch the WAD. If the checksum is not valid then the Majora's Mask WAD you have is not the official one. You will need to get the proper WAD.

Where to put files on the SD Card:

There are three files that you will need to place on your SD Card.

WAD File:
SD:\wad\zc-x.x-?.wad

Save File:
SD:\private\wii\title\NZCE\data.bin <-- USA
SD:\private\wii\title\NZCJ\data.bin <-- Japan

Game Config File:
SD:\gameconfig.txt

The save data in the Release is placed accordingly in the zip folder. Meaning you can just copy and paste the private folder from it to the SD Card and merge it if you already have one on your SD Card.

Game Config:

Due to the way these new codes are working some additional configurations need to be set for Gecko OS in order for them to work. This is done with a Game Config file. Copy and paste the following into your Game Config file. Optionally you can download a pre-made one here.

NZC?:
codeliststart = 80XXXXXX
codelistend = 80XXXXXX
hooktype = 1

If you already have a Game Config file on your SD Card that is used for a different game. Simply append this information into it.

Installing the Save Data (without deleting data you may want to keep):

If you have multiple copies of Majora's Mask installed on your Wii you will probably have more than one set of save data. You may want to keep the data for other channels. But how do you tell them appart when they all look the same? Follow the steps below to ensure you do not delete save data you want to keep.

Firstly, after installing the WAD, launch the ZeldaCodes Virtual Console Channel and create a file. This will create a set of save data for it. Secondly make sure to only have the custom ZeldaCodes Save Data on your SD Card. Do not have any other Majora's Mask Save Data on the SD Card. Then from the Wii System Menu...

Congratulations everything is ready to go! Simply Launch the Channel through Gecko OS and play the game.

Note: For these codes no GCT File is used. Even through Gecko OS may say "No Codes Found" when launching the channel the codes will still be loaded and active.

Updating the WAD:

If no new codes are made but the WAD is updated then do the following.

Note: Do not uninstall the old WAD. This will delete the save data with it. Just install the new WAD over the old one. This will keep the save data (and gecko codes) while adding any new changes that were added to the ROM.
